Carmel-by-the-Sea is a small seaside town about an hour south of our city and is known for its stunning coastal scenes and art loving community. In this class, we’ll stroll along the famous Scenic Bluff Path and paint a view of the cerulean blue ocean and beach below, framed by wind-swept Cypress trees. The neighborhoods of Carmel are filled with European style cottages and yards, adorned with vines and charming gardens. We’ll be sure to include some of that as well. Carmel is rated “One of America’s Top Beach Towns” and although we can’t all physically travel there together, we can still paint together and use our trusty imaginations to breath in some of that invigorating sea air.

Hi, I'm Ruth
For over 30 years, I have offered classes and private lessons in calligraphy, watercolor and art journaling. Although I find great joy in teaching new skills and techniques, I see myself more as a coach than a teacher. I’m convinced that within each of us there is a creative person longing for expression. I have found that when encouraged and nurtured, that part of us (of you) can blossom and transform how we experience life. I have enjoyed every class - Art Journaling, Beginning Watercolor, Lilliputs, In the Garden, Lettering - that I have taken with Ruth over the past year and a half. I only wish I had found her sooner. She is well-prepared and all of her classes include a little art history, a wealth of techniques and handouts, and plenty of practice with Ruth as both coach and cheerleader. What I appreciate the most about Ruth is that she verbalizes what is going on in her head as she paints - I'm never left wondering, how or why did she do that?
